The Iron Tiger

Every so once in a while I like to sit in front of the winter fire with a quick weekend read.  More often than not lately I have been going through my old thriller authors.  Of these, Jack Higgins is the Master, if not the most long lived.  I always enjoy reading books written near the beginning of an author’s career because I think they are trying harder.

The Iron Tiger is one of his early books.  First published in 1966, it attracted my attention because the protagonist, Jack Drummond flies a Beaver aircraft between India and Tibet.  This story is a typical man’s adventure, although there is a lady in the story.

Jack is running guns into Tibet, an enterprise the we know will catch up with him.  And it does.  From there it is non-stop, grinding action that we follow as Jack tries to stay one step ahead of the Communist Chinese.

If you want to get away from today’s world, this read will transport you back to the mid-sities, and a world less complex, but just as fast paced.

This book is long out of print but can be fore in used book stores or online at Alibris
